Qoya classes are based on the idea that through movement we remember.
We remember our essence is wise, wild and free. Wise: calling on the wisdom of yoga. Wild: the creative expression in dance. Free: expanding our capacity to enjoy being in our bodies through feminine movement.
Qoya is about finding joy in allowing your body to move the way it wants to move.
During Qoya classes, women are encouraged to listen to, embrace and then express their body's innate wisdom. In the safety of the class structure, participants are called to listen to their body and respond with movement, together with a non-judgemental community of like-minded women who feel called to move beyond the traditional gym workout. But that doesn't mean you won't sweat!
A Qoya class can be as invigorating or relaxing as your body requires in that moment. Participants can express what's inside through vibrant dance and energetic movements, or with a quiet flow. There is no wrong way to do it!
Qoya is a workout for the body, mind and spirit. Participants are encouraged to express their inner experience through dance, resulting in a physical workout that leaves the body feeling free, the mind open and the spirit integrated. The sweat, strength and increased heart rate are pleasurable by-products of each Qoya class. The joy you feel as a result will be motivation to keep coming back!
As you become familiar with the components that are part of the regular class structure, you'll experience the freedom of being fully present to your body.
There are no levels or physical criteria in Qoya, because it is based on what feels good in your body any age or fitness ability can do it. Unlike other types of dance based fitness classes, Qoya focuses on moving the way your body wants to move and that means that it often looks different than the person beside you, and we celebrate that!
Qoya classes in Winnipeg are open to women, and those that identify as women, only.
Wear comfortable clothes, bring a water bottle, a yoga mat and an open heart!
